Biography

As a certified birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator and Happiest Baby on the Block educator, I truly enjoy supporting families through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. I believe that education, compassionate support and community-building are vital aspects to empowering confident birth and parenting decisions which have lasting impact within the lives of new and growing families.

Birth Doula Certifications

  • I am certified as a birth doula through PALS Doulas and DONA International.

Formal Training

  • I completed the Labor Support Course for Birth Doulas through Seattle Midwifery School in June 2007. I went on to complete the SMS Postpartum Doula training course in September 2007.
  • In February 2009, I began my formal training to become a childbirth educator. Through the Great Starts Childbirth Educator Training, Teaching about Pregnancy Childbirth and the Newborn, and their certification process which includes co-teaching a comprehensive seven-week series and then solo teaching another series while being evaluated. In October 2009, I sat for and passed the certification exam for the International Childbirth Education Association.

Education

  • I am passionate about education in all forms. I recently completed Master of Arts degree in Cultural Studies and a graduate certificate in Women Studies. I also have two Bachelors degrees, one in Women Studies and the other in the Comparative History of Ideas, as well as a minor in Diversity Studies. These academic experiences have contributed to my work as a doula through increased skills and abilities related to research and analysis, synthesizing information and working with diverse populations and ideas.

Experience or Specialized Training

  • In addition to being a certified birth and postpartum doula, I am also an International Childbirth Education Association certified childbirth educator (ICCE) and a Certified Happiest Baby on The Block Certified Educator (CHBE).
  • I have specialized training and experience working with hospital birth, home and waterbirth, teen moms through moms over 40, LGBTQ families, single parents, special needs and premature babies, VBAC and cesarean birth, adoption and relinquishing mothers, clients with high-risk pregnancies, clients on bedrest, twins and clients experiencing postpartum mood disorders. I am always open to working with each family's unique needs in order to support them in having the birth they desire.

Other

  • I am actively involved with a number of professional organizations including PALS Doulas, Northwest Association for Postpartum Support (NAPS), DONA International, International Childbirth Educators Association (ICEA) and the Regional Association of Childbirth Educators of Puget Sound (REACHE).
