Biography
I was born at home, and came to doula work on a winding path that included two years as a human rights accompanier in rural Guatemala. These experiences taught me that birth is normal, and that women possess innate strength and power to guide them through childbirth. With a background in social services and human rights work, I know the importance of being present and grounded in challenging situations. I completed my doula training through the Seattle Midwifery School, and I currently work as a volunteer doula with Open Arms Perinatal Services, UW Medical Center, and Sea Mar Community Health Centers.
I practiced individually before deciding to offer a collaborative model of doula support with my wonderful partner, Vanna Waldron. I used to constantly worry that in the case of a personal emergency or a simultaneous labor, my clients would feel let down, even with a back-up doula in attendance. Providing continual labor support is joyful and exhausting, and I knew we could provide better support if we worked in a partnership. By working together, our services are:
Reliable - Both of us intentionally establish trusting relationships with all of our clients to guarantee that you work with a doula you feel comfortable with at your birth. We do not give your personal information to other doulas you have not met.
Sustainable - Working in a partnership enables us to be at our best physically, emotionally, and mentally whenever we work with you. During very long labors, one of us is available to give respite to the other, so you have sustainable support no matter the length of your birth.
Collaborative - Our clients have access to the resources and knowledge of two doulas. Prenatally, you can explore your hopes and concerns with both of us. One doula attends your birth and the other is available by phone for extra support. Having the expertise, support and perspective of two doulas often proves invaluable.
