Biography

I have been fascinated by the entire pregnancy and birth experience since I was very young. At the age of five I announced to my household that when I grew up, I would go to college and be a "baby" doctor-even at that tender age, I knew I wanted to be involved with birth. Unfortunately my utter dislike of math was not conducive to this career path, and my love of education, knowledge, nurturing growth, and children led me down a different path. I became a certified English teacher in 2001, and over a period of several years (1996-2002) I taught every age from four weeks to nineteen years. When not teaching the upper grade levels, I spent several years working in early childhood education which not only fostered great skills for working with growing families, but also gave me a large knowledge base for infant care. This eventually led me full circle back to birth as I encountered my first birth doula (and satisfied clients of doulas) through a family I worked with at a childcare center.

The doula path sang to me-being a doula combines my love of birth with my love of education and nurturing families. I am passionate about information and strive to ensure that my clients feel as knowledgable and confident about the experience of birth as possible. I believe strongly in the inherent power of women and the need for constant, gentle support throughout the birth process. While I work to make mom and the birth team feel safe and empowered, I also try to make the birth experience fun and joyful. Laughter can get us through just about anything.
