Biography
When asked how long I've been a doula, I usually answer "All my life." I have always been passionate about birth, and when I first discovered the doula profession 9 years ago it wasn't a choice to join it. It was a necessity. Over the next 5 yrs I built my knowledge base (I MIGHT be a bit of a research fanatic) as I began having my own children, and when the time was right I began my official training. I have now been a certified doula for 3 years, attending births part-time as I find mothers that need what I have. During those three years I took several months off to birth and enjoy my last child, and since then I have relished rediscovering the joy of sharing another woman's experience-helping to hold that sacred space, to walk with her through the challenges of labor and to welcome her as she emerges on the other side, a mother.
While I am always a doula, I am also always a mother, a teacher, and a wife. While I may someday return to a high school classroom, I currently satisfy my teaching itch at our homeschool co-op. I may also someday persue becoming a midwife-or an astronaut. Or a professional chef in a food truck. Limitless possibilities-everyone deserves them.
