PALS Doulas Recertification Program
In 2009, PALS celebrated its 20th anniversary as the first doula support and networking organization and within that time we have certified over 430 doulas. We are now implementing a program to recertify our doulas every three years, just as DONA International has done.
Because this is the beginning of our recertification program, and many of our doulas were certified more than three years ago, we have developed several options to choose from when you recertify this first time. With each option, the PALS Doulas Recertification Packet 2010 will guide you through the process. Each pathway is explained in detail within the packet. Below are the pathways to choose from when deciding how to recertify with PALS Doulas.
1. If you are currently a DONA certified doula as well as a PALS certified doula, regardless of your active or inactive 1. status, you will recertify with PALS on the same date that your recertification with DONA is due. Please let our office know of your status with DONA and when your DONA recertification is due. You can do this by calling us at 206-329-7257 or emailing us at info@palsdoulas.org.
2. If you are a PALS certified doula and do not have certification status with DONA, and you wish to recertify with PALS, then you have two options:
A) If you have been certified with PALS for longer than three years, your deadline for recertification will be on January 31st, 2011. The accepted time period for births and continuing education that can be used for the initial recertification requirement is January 2008 through January 2011.
B) If you have been certified with PALS for less than three years, your deadline for recertification will be on your three year certification anniversary date OR by January 31st, 2011, whichever comes last.

If your certification is over three years old and you choose not to recertify with PALS, you will no longer be a PALS certified doula as of January 31st, 2011.
