What is A Doula?

Doulas are labor support professionals experienced in childbirth who provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the laboring woman before, during, and just after childbirth. Doulas assist women giving birth in hospitals, birth centers, and home. Doulas are not a regulated or licensed profession. However, doulas can be certified, and we recommend hiring a PALS Certified Doula for your upcoming birth.

PALS Certified Doulas

PALS Doulas has been certifying birth doulas for over ten years. Our certification process ensures that our doulas have met the highest standards of the doula profession. Our certified doulas are kept up-to-date by attending continuing education and through recertification every three years. Many women train to become a doula and may practice without being certified. Doulas that choose to be certified demonstrate a commitment to their profession and strive to achieve the gold standard in doula care.

The PALS Doulas Certification Committee is composed of doulas who are actively working in the local birthing community. They assure each doula applying for certification has attended the highest quality training, that she practices within the scope of practice and code of ethics of the PALS Certified Doula. The doula certified by PALS Doulas will have demonstrated personal integrity, commitment to the profession, and that she has achieved a level of experience with good evaluations from her clients and their caregivers by completing the Certification Process.

When you choose a doula certified by PALS Doulas, you know that you are getting the best trained, ethical, professional, quality doula available. All the doulas listed on the following pages are certified by PALS Doulas, and maintain their certification by participating in continuing education and on-going evaluations.
